About

ABC Saddlery distributes equine products to the thoroughbred horse racing industry in and around Newmarket. Concentrating only on the racehorse and racing industry, providing products for the professional user.

Scobie

Alan Brian Coogan established ABC Saddlery in 1985 having retired from a career as a National Hunt jockey. Known in and around Newmarket as ‘Scobie’ a nickname which was acquired one morning as a teenager on Newmarket heath in reference to the then champion jockey Scobie Breasley .  Whilst being the backbone of ABC Saddlery, Scobie has also continued his involvement in thoroughbred horse racing having bred and trained winners. Most notably ‘Matsunosuke’ a multiple winning sprinter and one time record holder on the all weather surface.

This experience from young teenager working in Newmarket’s horse racing stables to jockey then breeding, training and owning race horses has given Scobie an insight and knowledge of horse racing which few gain. It is this knowledge and drive that has been key to ABC Saddlery and the way the business has been for the past 35 years and continues to run today.
